KARWA
CHAUTH CEREMONY
On the day
of Karwa Chauth, married ladies keep fast for
long life, good health and well being of their
husband. This fast helps to remove small
obstacles in married life.
In the first year of marriage newlywed
daughter-in-laws goes to her parent's house
before Karwa Chauth. One day before chauth
mother-in-law sends sargai for her
daughter-in-law.
Sargai has
4 types of salty snacks
4 type of Mithai
4 fruits
Gewar
Anderse
Baya
20 Plain Mathari-10 for baya mansen ke liye
and ten for giving the baya to the mother in
law
Halwa
Pooye
Karwa
Choup Bendi
Rs15/- or as much as you desire
However with passage of time practical snacks
or edible items are eaten. This is sent by the
mother-in-law only in the first year of
marriage only.
However from
the next year onwards girls mother sends
sargai for her daughter.
At the parents house she puts henna on her
hands and before the rise of the morning sun (taron
- stars kee chaun meh ), along with her
mother, sisters -in-law, eat sargai. After
this her Nirjal (without water) fast starts.
During the day the newlywed girl wearing her
chunri, Jewelry goes to her husband's house
taking along with her baya of karwa chauth.
Baya consist of two sets of ten saltless large
mathari each, halwa, pooye and some money
along with karwa chauth lota. Baya is sent by
mother every year on the day of karwa chauth.
Late in the evening married ladies who are on
fast after getting nicely dressed up wearing
right pallu Chunari, Jewelry, bangles after
putting on Chaup Bendi, worships Gaur Maata.
After they have mansoed the Baya, they tell
karwa chauth story and then exchange bayas.
Only after offering Aark to moon fast is
broken by eating pooyas.
